Maxtor 3200 Virus IncludedIf you are fighting the war against viruses, then I am sure the recent report of a trojan/virus included with the Maxtor external hard drive solution frustrates you.

If you have bought a Maxtor Basics Storage 3200, you may also have bought the Virus.Win32.AutoRun.ah trojan as an unfortunate addition. Currently, it is undisclosed how many units are effected, but be aware that this virus is one that searches out passwords for online games such as World of Warcraft  and sends them back to a server located in China. If you think you are safe thanks to the latest virus detection software, think again! The virus has the ability to disable such detection and continue to plague your system.

To find out if you are one of the many lucky people to enjoy this free addition, you will have to phone Maxtor, give them your serial number, and cross your fingers. As always, it is never a bad idea to update your virus scanning software to its latest version. And if you were planning to purchase a new unit from Maxtor, don’t worry, the company has said that “all products leaving the factory are now cleared of the virus.”

Got “Jack” on the phone. Gave my S/N and was told my drive was not infected.
Ran Virus scan just to be sure.
