I don’t see what the big deal is people make about Microsoft. Their products work for what I got them for. If anything, Nigeria bought the Linux because it may have been cheaper for them. Then Microsoft may have donated all the Windows they need via Gates Foundation. When it comes down to it, Microsoft has good people. People just don’t like the fact that most people use Windows =P.

I hate Microsoft just as much as the next Linux nerd but I don’t think they did anything wrong this time. I’m thinking the Nigerian government just realized they couldn’t install the most popular software and that the interface wouldn’t be what most people are used to so they just installed Windows.

Seriously though, I have no idea why Bancilhon is bitching about this. He made the sale. Now STFU.

For all you weenies that think there is some type of conspiracy, it is likely a very simple explanation, such as compatibility, familiarity, etc.

Wanna talk about a coup? Remember the so-called 100 dollar laptop for the OLPC that was supposed to run its own open source software? Now those cheap laptops will all be able to run windows, or a stripped version of it.

Nick: 1- Nigeria buys Mandriva’s Linux solution along with 17000 PCs.
2- Mandriva’s ship the Linux boxes to Nigeria.
3- The Nigerian government formats all machines and setup Windows on them… even if they already paid for Mandriva… I’m sure MS sticked their pointy nose in the deal somewhere.. Maybe they gave Windows to Nigeria so that the country wouldn’t run a competing OS… maybe something else happened, nobody knows..
