Crysis to Require a Monster PC

With everyone looking forward to what should be one of the most beautiful video games, Crysis, I was wondering if I would be able to play it when it came out, and much to my surprise, the required and recommended specifications have just been released, and while I do have a system that meets the minimum requirements, I am a bit behind on the gear needed to meet the recommended system requirements.

Minimum System Requirements
OS - Windows XP or Windows Vista
Processor - 2.8 GHz or faster (XP) or 3.2 GHz or faster* (Vista)
Memory - 1.0 GB RAM (XP) or 1.5 GB RAM (Vista)
Video Card -NVIDIA GeForce 6800GT 256 MB / ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (X800 Pro for Vista)
Hard Drive - 12GB Free Space

Recommended System Requirements

OS - Windows XP / Vista
Processor - Intel Core 2 DUO @ 2.2GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
Memory - 2.0 GB RAM
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar

Does your system meet the minimum requirements? How about the recommended requirements? Are games starting to ask us to drop too much money to keep up with the visuals they want to push to us?

I am not really a console gamer, but these types of requirements mean that I will be playing my Xbox 360 until the recommended video cards come down in price.

Recommends a 8800?! You gotta be kidding me!
My system (C2D 6300@2.6, 2gb ram, 8600 GTS OC) is a relatively top-tier system, and falls well short of the rec’d specs.
Unless the game runs well and looks good on lower specs, no one will buy this game…. look what happened to Shadowrun…

Almost any new systems that comes out right now will meet the recommended specs… the 8800 GTS isn’t THAT expensive :)

I’ll be playing it on a q6600 quad core system with 4 Go of ram and a 8800 GTX card :)

I’ll be heading to the store the day crysis comes out…

I’m also really looking forward to get my hands on Assasin’s creed.

Why can’t game creators just make games which run on any computer, adjusting the graphics’ quality to the specs of the machine?

That would be too much work. Just imagine how many different settings and calculations they would have to make…it’s like creating 3 or 4 games in one.

Quit crying about sys specs and upgrade your system. The next gen graphics are awesome and help shape the game. The more realistic a game looks, the better. This is a huge leap in game development, and I’d hate for any creator to “adjust the graphics” just because a few people don’t want to fork out the extra $50 for a decent graphics card.
