September 27, 2007 by Kiltak |

[Geeks are Sexy] Technology NewsYes folks, Geeks Are Sexy Technology News is quickly approaching its two-year anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, and to kick off what is sure to be a great third year in existence, I thought a contest was in order.

Now, if you’re assuming that this is another mundane blog contest, think again. This is no ordinary blog. And it’s certainly no boring little contest. We’re giving away more than $1300 in prizes to six random winners.

First-place prize:

Second-place prize:

  • $150 Amazon.com gift certificate from [GAS] Technology News
  • A six-month sponsorship of a BlogCatalog category ($60-$90 value) from BlogCatalog
  • One 1GB Mimobot USB key of your choice from Mimoco ($59.95 value)
  • One-year subscription to the PMetrics stats engine from Performancing.com ($49.99 value)

Fourth- and fifth-place prizes:

  • One-year subscription to the PMetrics stats engine from Performancing.com ($49.99 value)

Additional prize:

  • $50 via PayPal to a randomly selected blogger who posts about the contest on their site.

How can you get your hands on these fantastic prizes? Read these simple guidelines and get to writing.

Contest details:

To participate in the contest, you’ll need to write and submit a new “How To” article to be published on your own site. If you do not have a place to publish your article, we will gladly do it for you. Your article must be unique, meaning that it can’t have been previously written or published. Please also consider linking back to this post to let your readers know you’re participating.

This “How To” must be geeky. Anything related to technology, gadgets, graphic editing, gaming, software, hardware , blogging, and computer security is fine. I’d also like to specify that this contest isn’t for “tech geeks” only! If you’ve got a passion and can teach people about how to do things, then deep down inside, you’re a geek.

The contest starts today. We’ll give you a month to write your articles, and then we’ll select six random winners.

Plus, if you’ve got a blog of your own and choose to blog about the event, you’ll get an extra chance at winning. Just be sure to read the rules carefully before submitting your entry.

Rules:

  • Each article must be unique.
  • One post submission per participant.
  • If you write about the contest on your site, notify [GAS] of the URL to receive your extra contest entry.
  • Articles must be written in English.
  • Regular [GAS] contributors may enter the contest.

What you get for entering:

  • A chance to win one of six prize packages.
  • A link-back to your site in a future post listing all participating entries. Sites with inappropriate content will not be linked. [GAS] is read by 1000’s of readers each day and has been linked by numerous mainstream publications, so when we link to you, you’ll earn a bit of Google juice and some additional readership. We can’t guarantee continued readership though… that part is up to you.

Lucky winners will have their name picked on the first week of November. All entries will be listed on [GAS] through the month of October.

Teresa NoreenSince we need a neutral third party to pick the winning names, my friend Teresa Noreen, a professional model and hostess on StoneCold TV, will draw and announce the winners.

Good luck to all of you!

IMHO, some contestant will feel ‘unfair’ for random winner. I think it is better if winner post based on vote from other visitors. Or maybe you can weigh 50% from votes and another half from your own discretion.

BTW, I have write this contest on my blog

You do realise that when anybody enters this thing and a trackback appears in the comments, that IS a linkback? Their site’s title (keyword) appears after the “comment by” as a link - thus they don’t even need another linkback. Their site is already getting ‘Google juice’ simply by entering…

Of course, but I’ll list everyone that entered the contest into a future post.. It’ll be convenient for everybody to look at what others wrote.

Cool. Just double-checking that you weren’t tricking your readers who don’t really know about linkbacking into getting a bigger prize than they think they’re getting ;-) double ‘Google juice’ for everyone and not just the winners like most blogs do, eh? Nice touch :-p keep up the great site. I read it everyday.
