I think with things like the latest Moon Challenge by Google we are going to be seeing a lot quicker turnaround on technology leaps for space exploration and research. It's all very exciting and fascinating. I agree though that the next logical step should be another manned mission to the moon. At a minimum this would offer somewhat of a training mission that would probably teach us a lot about doing a mission to mars. Very nice writeup on your thoughts for this topic.
