But, does it really surprise you? I mean, it is an easy sell to the public. One less soldier killed while the military sends out remote-controlled killing machines.

I'm glad they are not fully autonomous ala ("You have 20 seconds to comply")...but this still does add one more layer of separation between the act of killing and humanity.

Just Too Cool: Interview & Podcast with Paul Moller, inventor of the M200G Volantor flying car....

Although the NetQoS Network Performance Daily blog is usually very focused on matters relating to - what else - network performance and enterprise IT, sometimes we have the opportunity to conduct an interview which doesn't directly deal with IT issues...

I've looked around a bit, and some organizations define a robot as a "mechanical device that moves automat ically or by remote control"..

But I agree, for me, a robot should have some kind of AI that gives it a bit of autonomy.. I'm sure the day where we'll see automated war bots isn't that far off though.

I dunno - everything is still controlled by humans, but it isn't much different in concept as smart bombs.

I kinda dispute the use of the term 'robot' in the case where humans are controlling the device. For some reason, I associate the term robot with autonomy. Am I wrong on that?

The only question I'm asking myself about this is, Will these robots banalize the act of killing other human beings?
