It's sad that content filter safeguards weren't already in place to prevent this sort of thing. Even beyond that, however, I wonder if we're being naive to assume that the introduction of notebook PCs to children – Third-World or otherwise – is going to magically equate to better learning or life.

The hardware & software technology that the MIT folks have assembled in the OLCP is undoubtedly impressive. And I'm anxious to see how these innovations will bleed over into the more traditional notebook world. But I'm not convinced that technology is the most appropriate solution to the problems that face the target users of these devices.
