Google Debuts Street View

May 30, 2007 by Kiltak |

Yesterday, Google has added a new feature to their Google Maps application named “Street View“, a service allowing you to walk around a city’s streets just as if you were actually there.

Google Street View

For now, the number of cities supported by this new feature is limited, but according to Google Earth director John Hanke, it shouldn’t be long until most major United States cities start being navigable by the service.

The detailed scenes shown by Street View are taken directly from real pictures and can contain elements such has people, vehicles and buildings.

So try it! I think you’ll be amazed by what this Street View can help you discover.

Here are a few locations that you might want to look at:

Empire State Building - Golden Gate Bridge - Googleplex

Thanks Fred, you’ve got some pretty funny stuff over there!

So, has anyone here discovered something worth sharing?

I think that the street view is a really neat idea but unless you can have this in your car it just isn’t all that worth using

Well, if all a city’s street are fully imaged, I guess this could be used to see things before actually going there..

If someone tells you a certain store is between a Quiznos Sub and a Starbuck Cofee shop on a certain street, you can go there and have a look for yourself!

All of this leaves me with a “big brother” feeling though :)
