Wow! That's an impressive background you have.

I lived in Austin for a few years when I was younger (and even worked in the warehouse at Dell) and loved every minute of it.

I also used to work in the same building as NetQoS back when pcOrder was still around.

Small world.

I'm really looking forward to reading your work.

Dude, tech support is easier on Linux than Windows. The shell is so much more powerful than cmd.exe (since that's almost useless except for deleting registry keys and ipconfig and ping) that instead of having to say "click the thing that looks like ___, no it's next to the one that looks like ____. You can't see it? It's a button that says ____!!" you can go "copy and paste this: 'sudo apt-get install 915resolution' into the terminal" and avoid trying to describe buttons.

Kiba can be found in 3vin0's repositories, but I think it's daily builds. It'll also turn your Beryl and Compiz into daily builds and all unstable if you do that. Better would probably be to go through the repos and grab the specific Kiba debs OR you can build from SVN. I'm building it from SVN right now so I can debug (I want to work on the project a bit....hint: don't use the volume plugin or it segfaults), though I'm hitting a snag because of the options I'm using in my build (--enable-glitz) and the fact that I'm missing one specific header file. If you want to do it without all the options I'm using, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=268645 should work just fine as a howto. It's not even in alpha yet, so there's no actual releases, but it works well (except for that volume == segfault thing).

Nice to see a new face on the team! Looking foward to reading you soon.

I used to love playing AD&D when I was a younger lady. But now that I am old (kindda), I unfortunately don't have much time for it anymore.

That would be awesome...

But like I said before, I'm sure distributing Ubuntu with their box is going to end up as a real nightmare for dell... Mark my words :) (Hmmm, maybe I could end up being wrong, who knows? :) )

Actually, I'm on 7.04 right now and it does indeed rock - I don't think I needed to drop to the terminal once! Kiba Dock - haven't tried it yet.

And yeah, I'm local to Dell and you know what, I'm going to give them a call, and see if I can't get a few photos of the new Ubuntu stuff rolling out across the line.

OH! That was YOU that wrote the 30 days Ubuntu one? That was good :) I was surprised at the HP printer difficulties. I think there's a total of 11 HP printers that don't work with Linux. Kind of weird about how there's a fix and Ubuntu doesn't use it...

(Looking back at that article) You may want to try out 7.04. Installing Beryl has become a matter of "sudo aptitude install beryl" which can be done with Synaptic and Add/Remove but well...I don't use those because I don't like waiting for the GUI to load and search and whatnot. Kiba Dock is better than the GDesklets Gnome Bar. GDesklets kind of suck because they almost always run behind your programs and their transparency is "funny" (shows desktop instead of whatever window's behind it when you pop them to the front). The codec issues are taken care of in 7.04 as well. Add/Remove contains 4 packages (I think) which if you install all 4, you have all the codecs you could ever need. I find it weird that you had to do manual editing to rip mp3s because all I had to do was install mp3 support. I used ubuntuguide.org to set stuff up, and I'm pretty sure it points out xine's better DVD support compared to gstreamer's.
