Genius - although, probably not that hard to pull off. You can’t do this, however, with a PC.

Yeah..stupid Macs….you could never do that with a PC…

what an absolutely flawless operating system! i don’t ever want to hear Mac users bash Windows for security vulnerabilities again…

Cheap TV that really misinforms.

Yes, you can steal some mac programs that way. But the really expensive stuff requires not just the application file but the permission files hidden in the Application Data directory. In short, this won’t even work on a Mac.

Second, this process typically does not work for Windows.

Third, I’m not surprised the Apple Store guys didn’t stop her. First, the apple store guys know that she’s not taking anything from the business physically, so they’re not out any money themselves. And they also know that anyone who wants, say, Final Cut Pro, can just pirate it online - this is probably the least efficient method of “stealing” the software, so why the hell would they even bother looking for it. They don’t care.

Fourth, it makes for glitzy reality TV, but the truth is that any pirate who wants the software worth “thousands of pounds” is not going to risk his neck going into an apple store where there IS a chance of getting caught, they’ll just do what they’ve done for years - P2P, IRC, and newsgroups.
