I follow a number of blogs of people that are very good at monetizing through Adsense. One guy in particular likes to use the large rectangular box right in the top center body of the blog. He says that his own testing proves that one to be the best in terms of click through. The thinking behind it is that his regular readers will just skip over the ad and remain loyal because his content is of such a high quality. Yet, casual surfers will get annoyed by seeing the ad right away and then click the first link to leave the site which just happens to be that large Adsense block. Cool site guys. I agree, computer geeks are sexy.

You could simply add the javascript code from Google for an ad unit directly into a post, if your blogging platform doesn’t sanitize for scripts.

Or, you could use an approach similar to what I described here, where you place some marker on the post (I used a special category, but you could just as easily embed a special tag). Then your theme’s loop can look for that marker and embed the ad script if it finds it.

So, like, how do you get an Adsense ad onto an individual post? I need some Adsense 101 — maybe someone could direct me to a great site that can teach me this stuff?

Yeah, I agree with you Gabriel that any time you force your users to scroll down just to get to your content, that’s user abuse. That’s why in this post we say to float it right, with your text wrapping around it. That way, if the user is looking for what you’re writing about, they can start reading that right away. On the other hand, if what they were really looking for is something you’re advertising, that will be right in front of them, too.

Some people arent very creative when it comes to placing ads on their site.. they make their page look really bad by just slapping some ads anywhere.. people might click on the ads sometimes but they wont remember your site.

I have a pet peeve I’m noticing alot of website owners just smack some adsense ads right below the title of their page and you have to scroll down to get to the what you’re looking for. I hate that

Something else I have been doing is taking a ad program like Commission Junction and replacing some of the links with their text links on older, well trafficked posts.

Regular readers keep up with day to day stuff, or at minimum week to week. Search engine traffic will come after that… It seems to be working well for me. Anyone have any comments?

I definitely find that my 300×250 box placed within the text of a post gets the most clicks.

I have a small AdSense bar on the “single” page template of my blog. It’s between the “metadata” and the comment fields.

As to my regular readers… I disclaim in my “Etc…” section that I have ads on some of my pages (got that idea from a friend).
