Windows OneCare Sucks

----------------

Windows OneCareYes, the title of this post resumes the situation quite well. An Austrian Company named AV Comparatives has recently tested 17 of the most popular Anti-Virus products that are currently available out there, and in that bunch, only one failed the test: Windows OneCare. Surprised? I know I’m not. This is the second test in less then a month that Microsoft’s AV software has failed. When seeing results like this, all I can do is wonder why MS’s AV ranked at the bottom of the list, especially when I know that their employees probably have access to the Windows source code.

Microsoft OneCare performed very low in the test, and did not reach the minimum requirements for participation,” wrote Andreas Clementi, senior tester at AV Comparatives, in the report about the tests.

  1. OneCare just auto installed Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. Now my computer thinks it’s new again and all my set-up info is gone. Forget System Restore too, it thinks it’s on day one again. Stay clear of Service Pack 3, I think it’s designed to try and boost sales of Vista.

Maybe it’s time for a MAC (something I thought I would never say). I love the dog on the new ad!

I guess the folks at MS discovered that I was happy and they couldn’t stand it. OneMore happy customer.

  3. It dosn’t surprize me either:
    1) I installed the software.
    2) It wont start.
    3) Its services (which restart after ending their process), disabled every executable on my system.
    4) It wont uninstall. (my only option was to remove from program list.)
Im left now with a system that dosn’t function, and no means of restoring. Except to reformat and reinstall.
Yet another waste of time and effort XP style…..
    THANKS MICROSOFT!!! :D

  5. No offense to both the author of the article and to the posters who have preceded me – but OneCare was recently discontinued (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security_essentials/onecare.aspx). The announcement was in October 2009 for heaven's sake (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Live_OneCare….

While we're at it, let's take time to test and review New Coke and the Edsel. What's next, an edgy, scathing review of the Kin too? I don't consider myself to be an MS Fanboy so I hate setting myself up for being called such. But when an article is written specifically generate negative street for any company one must serious consider what agenda is at play. Shame on you.

    • Sam, you say "The announcement was in October 2009 for heaven's sake". Did you look at the article date? This article was written in March 2007.
